Unable to transition due to family and societal pressures, I paint myself as a woman to explore my feminine energy, desires, and beauty. From a young age, I secretly longed to become a girl, while outwardly conforming to expectations.
My work investigates ideals of feminine beauty through imagination, creating hybrid identities that resist fixed racial and cultural norms, shaped by my own sensibilities. Virginity and questioning have become ongoing aspects of my identity, as I navigate who I am and what I seek to become.
Gender, to me, functions symbolically ? the masculine as rectangular, the feminine as circular or triangular ? roles played in the theater of the mind. I draw inspiration from the Japanese onnagata of Kabuki, whose artful gender fluidity contrasts with theories of fixed gender performance, offering a vision of identity as layered, mutable, and interrupted.
