Juan Canals is a visual artist whose work transforms emotional impulses into layered compositions that invite deep experiential engagement from the viewer. He primarily works on paper, combining mixed media painting and collage, often repurposing fragments of unfinished past works. Born in 1964 in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat near Barcelona, Spain, Canals studied mural painting and pictorial techniques at the Llotja School of Applied Arts. His practice has evolved through diverse experiences?ranging from sculpture and screen printing to architectural color studies and teaching. He has participated in public art projects and solo exhibitions, developing a distinctive voice that balances abstraction and figuration, often within a single surface. While his primary medium has long been paper, he is currently expanding his exploration into large-format canvas works.
