Mengfan Bai
Bai Mengfan (b. 1994, China) captures the poetic and subtle aspects of urban landscapes, blending abstract and realistic elements. She uses mundane objects like tennis balls, road cones, and coins to create dynamic compositions with lines inspired by traffic markings and runway lines. Her paintings feature pure, coherent backgrounds with granular textures simulating real-life surfaces.
Combining photorealism and ancient Chinese aesthetics, Mengfan juxtaposes contemporary imagery with culturally significant pictures, sparking visual conversations. Her goal is to re-construct the world based on a new aesthetic order, surpassing time and space constraints.
Mengfan holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York and a BFA in oil painting from Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Chengdu. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and China, including at Boers-Li Gallery, PULSE Art Fair, and Chengdu Art Academy. She lives and works in New York City.
