Surea Kim
Surea Kim combines Korean color and German philosophy in her art, reflecting her identity shaped by her long stay in Germany. Her works feature mirrored letters and intaglio motifs, creating a unique style through layered compositions. After painting the background, she cuts, attaches, and frames the canvas pieces.
Her name, inspired by Surrealism, signifies her effort to embody surreal, imaginary images on canvas. After 13 years in Germany, she returned to Korea, exploring her identity as an artist who “opens and composes space.” Her works contain secretive codes like an inclined yellow Moon Jar, intaglioed pine cone, and her imaginary character, Mr. Patience. These elements invite viewers to discover new compositions and stories beyond reality. Klamp Gallery hopes visitors will explore Surrea’s imaginary world and find their own ‘potential world within us.’
